Overall Approach and Methodology

The Consortium of twelve academic and two industrial partners is an interdisciplinary co-operative of molecular, cellular and developmental biologists, pharmacologists, physiologists, mathematicians and bioinformaticians with a common goal to use systems biology, in order to understand and then predict the actions of the NR superfamily in cells and disease models. Combining the diverse expertise inherent in this structure will enable the mathematical description of gene-nutrient interactions and permit modelling of the impact of diet on health and the development of disease. The Consortium aims to unite the understanding of the activities of biological macromolecules and metabolites to generate a unified paradigm capable of describing and predicting complex processes in living cells and organisms. This requires the integration and interpretation of large volumes of data from “omics”-based studies (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and physiomics) by the application of bioinformatics methods and systems biology mathematical tools.
